May 28, 2023 – CALGARY – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Travelodge Canada is thrilled to announce that George Siourounis with the Travelodge by Wyndham Weyburn, has won the Scott King Community Service Award at the Wyndham 2025 Global Conference in Las Vegas.

The Travelodge by Wyndham brand session at the Wyndham 2025 Global Conference in Las Vegas, gave the Travelodge brand the opportunity to recognize hotels and staff that go above and beyond in many categories to serve as guests’ Basecamp for Adventure. The Scott King Award was created in 2022 to celebrate hospitality professionals that go above and beyond for the hospitality industry and their community. For 20 years, the owner of the Travelodge by Wyndham Weyburn, Saskatchewan; George and the Siourounis family, have been going the extra mile by running events like the annual charity golf tournament, which has raised nearly $400,000. Donations have supported medical equipment for the Weyburn General Hospital, the Weyburn Ambulance, supporting the Continuing Care Assistant and practical nursing programs at Southeast College and Inclusion Weyburn and Envision for the last three years in a row.

As George was unable to attend the conference this year, Trevor Hagel, Executive Vice President, Operations, Travelodge Canada (pictured) accepted the award on his behalf. “I would like to offer our sincere congratulations to the Siourounis family for winning this award. It is a tremendous achievement to be selected from so many worthy candidates across Canada and the United States. This year’s ORHMA VIP Hotel Leadership Dinner following the CHIC conference hit new heights with a fantastic dinner event at one the top 10 restaurants in Toronto; Black + Blue Steakhouse.

With outstanding food and company, the event hosted by Jason Cheskes of Above the Line Solutions, was the perfect setting for 55 invited industry leaders to gather is a purely social event. As remarked by Kevin Swark of Genesis Hospitality “I remember the first time this dinner took place, when there were 11 of us, and it’s amazing to see what the event has become.”

Food Banks Canada's After the Bell program provides nutritious food packs to children who rely on critical school food programs during the academic year. This initiative aligns with Days Inns - Canada's commitment to supporting the communities where they operate.

The After the Bell program was created specifically to address the summer hunger gap, delivering food packs to children across Canada through a network of food banks and community agencies. Days Inns - Canada team members participated in the program's volunteer packing day on May 14, 2025, helping prepare food packs for distribution.

ARLINGTON, Va. 22 May 2025 – On the negative side of the Easter calendar shift, Canada’s hotel industry reported mixed year-over-year performance in April, according to data from CoStar. CoStar is a leading provider of online real estate marketplaces, information and analytics in the property markets.

April 2025 (percentage change from 2024):

  • Occupancy: 63.2% (-1.0%)
  • Average daily rate (ADR): CAD190.46 (+1.1%)
  • Revenue per available room (RevPAR): CAD120.36 (0.0%)

Among the provinces and territories, British Columbia recorded the highest occupancy level (68.7%), which was 1.5% above 2024.

Among the major markets, the highest occupancy was seen in Vancouver (-1.2% to 78.5%).

The lowest occupancy among provinces was reported in Prince Edward Island (44.2%), up 6.4% against 2024.

At the market level, Calgary saw the lowest occupancy (61.2%), down 0.9% from April 2024.
